Sailing barge
Zwarte Ruiter is a handy ship for sailing the Wadden Area.
Its small draft and flat bottom allows it to sail where
other boats get stuck.
The 105-year old ship was built for transporting bulk
freight. Nowadays it's a convenient home for a group up to
16 people.
Four cabins with 4 berths each are there for you to spend
the nights.
The fully equipped kitchen allows you an independent stay
for a longer period.
Catering service is possible on
demand.
No sailing experience necessary! Skipper and mate will
guide and instruct you to help sailing the ship.
Enjoy the silent course, just driven by wind and current.
Ideal for bird watching !

Here we stay for the night
somewhere in an old, small canal between Leeuwarden and Dokkum
This
view is from half way the mast of the ship due north.
behind is the dike of Groningen. Rows of wooden poles and
branches hold the mud when the water flows away.
The mudflats grow, as is necessary with the sea level rising
over the years.
